The Taiwanese company AsusTeK Computers Inc. is not only expanding its roots in the mobile sector, but it is also launching other computer peripherals almost every month. After all, it used to be the main business of the company and Asus brand is known for affordable computer peripherals.
The company has launched a new laptop for the Indian market. Dubbed as R558UQ the laptop is an upgraded version of the previous launched R558. Asus launched the predecessor back in June 2016, and it received good reviews on the market.
The company has launched two different variants of the laptop based on the processing power. The first one comes with Core i5 processor that has the price tag of Rs.48990/- and the second one comes with Core i7 processor that has the price tag of Rs.59990/-
Features of Asus R558UQ
Talking about the display, the laptop features a 15.6-inch full HD 1920 x 1080 pixels LED-backlit display that gives 200 nits of brightness. As mentioned before, the laptop is available in two variants. The first one with Intel Core i7-7500U processor clocks at 2.7GHz. The second one with Intel Core i5-7200U processor clocks at 2.5 GHz. Both the variants come with Intel HD Graphics 620 integrated graphics. The i5 model comes with 4 GB RAM while the i7 model comes with 8 GB RAM.
On the internal storage front, both the laptops come with 1TB 5400RPM HDD, and in case you want additional storage space, you can use SD card or external HDD as well. It sports a VGA webcam which can be used for video chat or recording simple videos. For better graphics, the laptop packs Nvidia GeForce 940MX (N16S-GTR) dedicated graphics with 2GB of DDR3 video RAM.
On the connectivity front, the laptop has Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.0, Ethernet jack, HDMI, and a headphone jack along with one port each of USB 2.0, USB 3.0, and USB 3.1 Type-C. It comes with 2-cell 38Whr Li-ion battery pack which can give good battery backup. The dimensions of the laptop are 256x150x25.5mm, and it weighs 2.3kg.
Asus R558UQ comes with chiclet Keyboard with Asus’s Smart Gesture and Splendid software. The i7 model is available in Glossy Dark Maroon color option. On the other hand, i5 comes in Matt Golden, Glossy Dark Brown, Red, and Dark Blue color options.
Peter Chang who is the Regional Head of South Asia and Country Manager of System Business Group at Asus India issued a statement about the laptop. He said that in the past few years the demand for mainstream laptops has increased at a steady pace. The company is going to concentrate on this segment this year.
That means that we may see more mid-range laptops from Asus in 2017. The company’s main competition in the Indian market will be with Dell, Toshiba, and Apple. There are several mid-range laptops in the market which are doing well. Asus has to make room for specific product range in the already crowded market. The laptop has to have special features and amazing design which Asus can easily pull off.
