The state-run telecom company BSNL seems to be in the mood to mark its presence in almost every price war. The company has launched several plans in the last few months to counter the offers provided by Jio and other telecom companies. Starting from the cheap broadband connection, BSNL has introduced new packs with major price cuts.
At the moment, most of the telecom companies have packs that are in direct competition of free voice calls offered by Reliance Jio. BSNL has also offered plans for “free calling” but for a limited number of minutes along with some restrictions. Finally, the company has launched a new plan that will compete with companies like Airtel, etc. in terms of voice calling and data.
The Rs.144/- plan
The first most important point of this plan is that it is available for both prepaid and postpaid customers. Other companies do not offer similar plans for their postpaid and prepaid subscribers. The validity of the plan is one month. The user can make free calls to all the networks both locally and nationally. This plan also includes 300 MB of 3G data as well.
What other plans BSNL introduced recently?
A few weeks back, BSNL also offered two more plans. The first one was for Rs.99/- in which the user can enjoy free local BSNL to BSNL calling along with 300 MB data. The other plan was for Rs.399/- in which the user enjoys free calling on all networks across India with 1 GB 3G data. BSNL is also offering unlimited 3G data in Rs.1999/- per month. The new plan offers lesser data but free calling across India just like Rs.399/- plan which makes it more affordable.
What is the need?
At the moment, it is important for all telecom companies to come up with plans to counter the offers by Reliance Jio. BSNL has wide coverage just like Reliance Jio, but it has more experience in comparison to Jio. Moreover, the customers have faith in a state-run telecom company. In the last two years, the losses of BSNL have come down substantially, and it is working hard to retain the customers while improving services. The new packs will help BSNL in improving its market share.
What else is happening with BSNL?
The state-run telecom company is also working on installing Wi-Fi hotspots across the country. As of now, BSNL has installed 4000 hotspots in different locations. BSNL has a target of 40000 hotspots by the end of 2017 which will improve the status of wireless broadband in the country. Apart from that, BSNL has also acquired 2500 MHz spectrum which will finally give BSNL the much-aviated access to LTE network. The BSNL 4G services will be launched in a phased manner across India.
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd has been around before the evolution of mobile services in India. It was one of the very first telecom companies to introduce mobile connectivity in India. The reach of BSNL network is in the far areas of the country which makes progress even more important.
