It is not at all common for Chinese manufacturers to come up with smartphones running on the latest version of Android OS. The well-known brand Oppo has recently adopted Android 6.0 marshmallow in October 2016 after months of the initial release of the OS. However, some of the lesser known companies in China are taking the ‘risk’ to launch budget phones with the Android 7.0 Nougat. A Chinese company that goes by the name Goetel has announced a rugged smartphone Geotel A1.
Features of Geotel A1
The phone comes with 4.5-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display with SD resolution. The screen resolution is 960 x 540 pixels, and it gives the pixel density of 244 ppi.
Processor and memory
The phone features MediaTek MT6580M chipset coupled with quad-core Cortex-A7 processor. It also packs Mali 400 MP2 GPU for better graphics and gaming experience. Geotel A1 comes with 1 GB RAM and 8 GB internal storage. However, around 3.6 GB out of the internal storage is consumed by OS and apps. You can increase the storage capacity of the phone up to 32 GB via microSD card.
The phone comes with 8 MP rear camera with LED flash module. It supports features like autofocus, touch focus, geo-tagging, HDR, and panorama. The phone also packs 2 MP front camera for selfies and video chat. You may not like the quality of the front camera, but at the price this phone is going to hit the market, there is nothing more you can expect. Both the cameras can shoot videos up to 720p at 30 frames per second.
Here the phone lacks a little bit. It does not have 4G LTE support and can only connect to 2G and 3G bands. It supports Dual SIM and can connect to the mobile internet via Edge, GPRS, and 3G. You can use it as a hotspot for sharing mobile internet as well. The phone also supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v4.0, and GPS. For wired connectivity and charging it uses microUSB 2.0 port.
The Rugged features
The phone comes with IP67 certification. The armor it is covered in has IP68 certification. The Ulefone Armor features physical button instead of capacitive buttons on the A1 phone. The SOS key is placed on the Armor, and it comes with additional Corning Gorilla Glass protection.
The Geotel A1 runs on Android 7.0 Nougat which is the main selling point as well. The phone packs Li-ion 3400 mAh battery which is good enough for more than 20 hours of talk time and 200 hours of standby time. It packs standard 3.5mm audio jack with FM support. The phone also comes with SOS key which can come in handy during a distress situation. Geotel A1 has Accelerometer and Proximity sensors for better user control. The phone also supports active noise cancellation with dedicated mic. It comes bundled with audio and video editing apps along with document viewer. The standard Google apps like Gmail, Hangout, Maps, and Chrome are pre-installed on the phone. The phone has the MRP of USD 150, and it comes in Black and Orange color.
