Gionee launched Steel 2 for Chinese market at CNY 1299


Gionee started its operations back in 2002. The company has marked its presence in its home country China along with other markets like India, Vietnam, Taiwan, Thailand, Middle East and Myanmar. The company is known for mobile phones especially in mid-range and affordable price range. Unlike other mobile makers who are selling their phones online, Gionee concentrated on the offline market in India and captured those customers who do not trust online platforms to buy mobile phones.

The company has recently launched a new handset Gionee Steel 2 for the Chinese market. It has the MRP of CNY 1299 which roughly makes Rs.13999/-. It is available for the preorders on the company’s website. The company has not made it clear yet if it is going to launch the phone in other global markets or not.

Features of Gionee Steel 2

The phone comes with 5-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display with HD resolution at 1280 x 720 pixels and gives the pixel density of 293 ppi. The phone supports multi-touch up to 5-fingers and comes with unspecified glass protection.

Processor and memory

The phone packs MediaTek MT6737 chipset coupled with the quad-core processor. It comes with 3 GB RAM and 16 GB internal storage. The OS and preloaded apps take around 3.5 GB storage capacity, and the remaining space is available for the user. You can upgrade the storage up to 128 GB via microSD card.

Camera specifications

Gionee is known for good camera quality. In this phone as well, the company has tried to provide the best possible camera. It comes with 8-MP rear camera with LED flash module. It supports features like geo-tagging, face detection, smile detection, autofocus, HDR, and panorama. The phone also packs 5-MP front camera which is good enough for selfies and video chat. Both front and rear cameras can shoot videos at [email protected] For the front camera, the company has provided an option of screen flash which comes in handy when you want to click selfies in low light conditions.

The phone supports Dual SIM over 2G, 3G and 4G LTE networks. It can connect to Edge, GPRS and LTE bands for mobile internet. You can use the phone to share high-speed mobile internet as well. It comes with other connectivity options like Bluetooth, GPS, and WiFi. The phone packs a 3.5mm audio jack and comes with FM radio support. It uses microUSB 2.0 port for wired connectivity and charging.

The phone runs on Android 6.0 marshmallow with company’s own Amigo 3.5 on the top. The dimensions of the phone are 144.30 x 70.50 x 8.60mm and it weighs 160 grams. It packs a fingerprint scanner embedded in the home button for faster access to the home screen and apps. Along with that the phone also packs proximity, accelerometer, ambient light and gyroscope sensors for better user control. The phone packs a powerful 4000 mAh battery which is good enough for 36 hours of talk time and 400 hours of standby time. The phone is available in Jazz Gold and Gold Black color options.
