Reliance Jio to Allot 6-Series Mobile Numbers to New Subscribers with 9-Series Exhausting Soon: Report

The aspiring customers of the fastest growing player in the telecom industry in India, Reliance Jio, may get phone number starting from the digit ‘6’ in coming days. As per the reports, DoT (Department of Telecom) has given permission to issue phone numbers starting from the digit ‘6’. As of now, only Reliance Jio has the permission to use the digit as the first numeral. Reliance Jio is planning to issue the numbers to limited circles and not all of them.

Different states will get different series

Telecom Talk which reports similar news about the telecom circle recently published the information. As per the report, the 6-series MSC (Mobile Switching Code) will be available in Assam, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu. The company will provide 60010-60019 MSC codes in Rajasthan, 60020-60029 MSC codes in Assam and 60030-60039 MSC codes in Tamil Nadu. In other states the series of MSC codes is different. In Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat it has received a nod for 7-series MSC codes, and in Kolkata and Maharashtra, it has received 8-series MSC codes.

More connections for the subscribers

It is good news for the company as well as the subscribers as Reliance Jio was exhausting the allotted series of phone numbers very quickly in most of the circles. With the new series in hand, the company can provide new numbers in the market. This step has been taken to meet the demand of additional subscribers in the country. The department in its statement said that Reliance Jio has approached the department for the new series to meet the increased demand.

So far, the Indian Telecom companies were using 7, 8 and 9 series MSC codes. After the entry of Reliance Jio, the price of almost every telecom service fell down. This gave a boost to the demand of mobile connections in the Indian market. The increase in the demand has resulted in the quicker exhaustion of the existing series of MSC codes than anticipated. According to the reports published by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, the number of mobile subscribers in India has increased by 21.02 million and reached the milestone of 1.2 billion in the month of November 2017.

As of December 31st, Reliance Jio has already reached 72.4 million subscribers. The company achieved 50 million subscribers in just 83 days which was a record in itself. The average number of customers adding to the circuit was above 600000 per day.
