The leaked pictures of Reliance Jio DTH STB and remote control bring about a fresh swirl in the already rumored talks about Reliance Jio’s new terrain. Reliance Jio has been highly talked about since their telecommunications group offered unlimited calls, SMS, and 4G data to its users. The company seems to have taken on yet another task which is to provide DTH services. Rumors say the launch is to happen this March or April. The Jio broadband services is also supposed to be launched at the same time but look like this service will take some more time before it is made available to the public.
Reliance Jio’s GigaFiber 1 Gbps broadband seems to have gained some validity. The connections for the broadband have already been laid out in two cities for their testing whereas there was nothing concrete about Jio’s DTH services till now. Although buzzes about the Direct to Home services were around, the leaked image of the set-top box and a remote control confirmed the reports.
By the looks, it is a circular set top box which would be connected to JioGigaFiber or a dish through which the channels would be telecast on your television. Just like a standard STB the Jio set top box also comprises of an Ethernet port, S/PDIF port, a USB port and an HDMI. The remote in the image is clearly meant for operating a Jio set top box. The Jio logo on the remote control shows that the product is ready and is in its final stages before it can be launched. The remote also has a mic which may support voice activated features.
The launch of Jio Giga Fiber and Jio DTH seems to fall one after the other if not together. If the company manages to finalize the plans, the users would get bundled services for television, mobile, and internet. The only other company which offers services in all the three fields is Airtel. Reliance Jio is sure to give tough competition to Airtel with its attractive plans.
Monthly charges for the services provided by Jio DTH services are rumored to be between Rs. 185 to 200. Users will have access to 300+ channels, and this includes premium HD channels too. The company is also looking to tie-up with international broadcasters in order to get the required rights to stream popular English television series such as Game of Thrones, Sherlock, The Flash, etc.
Reliance Jio telecommunications has already set high expectations by providing free data, calls, and SMS earlier. This is why it is anticipated that they would provide their users with at least three months of free DTH service.
Reliance Jio hasn’t made any official releases about the launch of their DTH services. However, this image could mean a launch announcement can be expected soon.
