You’ll be forgiven if you thought that the name signifies anything else but a phone. The Titanium Machfive is the latest phone from Karbonn. It was launched in August of 2015 at a price of RS. 5999 and can be bought exclusively on Amazon.
The device at the current price is definitely on the cheaper side and is value for money considering what it offers. The Machfive will give you 2GB of RAM, a 5 inch High Definition screen, and a front and rear camera with 5MP and 8MP respectively. Both cameras have led flash support. The phone also has an IR blaster by default. Let’s have a more detailed glimpse on the phone and see if it provides good value for money.
Do not worry this is just a fancy way of saying the design of the phone. The Machfive comes in two variants the champagne (gold) variant that has black bezels and the white variant with two blue bezels. The bezels run around the device. These two variants give the device a nice fresh look to it.
The Machfive has a 5-inch screen and is relatively large compared to other devices because of the large bezels on the corners of the phone. The design that was used in making the phone is good because it makes it easier to hold because of the rounded back and the textured pattern on the back panel that makes the grip better.
The Machfive has a plastic construction that has a very sturdy feel to it. The front facing camera with the LED flash and the LED notification light are located on the left above the display with the earpiece being at the centre. To the right of the display, the proximity and ambient light sensors can be found.
The phone has the capacitive keys for home, return and multi-tasking located below the screen. The right-hand side on the phone has the volume buttons and the power button. At the bottom, there is the microphone and micro USB port, with the 3.5 mm audio jack and IR port being at the top of the device.
The screen on the Machfive is decent for the price that it offers. The screen is 5 inches in size and has a resolution of 720×1280 pixels with a 293 ppi. This is not bad at all considering the phone is a mid-range or low budget smartphone.
The specs aren’t extraordinary and are exactly in today’s smartphone market. The Machfive runs on a 1.3 GHz quad-core Mediatek processor with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB internal storage that can be expanded through the use of a Micro SD card up to 32GB.
The phone has Android Lollipop 5.0 Operating system installed and runs on a user Interface that is light and similar to stock lollipop. This is probably because they limited the amount of bloatware on the phone. It also has a number of games and apps pre-installed, with swift keyboard among them and set as the default keyboard for the system.
The feature that makes this phone different is the IR blaster; this is an infrared emitter that allows you to use the phone as a universal remote control. Karbonn has placed the smart remote app in the Machfive enabling you to configure your devices such as Indian set-top boxes and DVDs.
These features make the phone work well during the daily usage and also have the capability to multitask. The Machfive also has a gesture app that allows you to use certain gestures to implement commands, and it works fine. The phone can play most games without any hiccups but don’t expect any heavy graphics game to work on it. The only problem is that the interface doesn’t allow for much customizability and control. This means you can’t put your own personal touch or tweaks to the interface that can be disappointing to some.
The phone has a front facing and rear camera that have led flash support. The front camera has the 5Mp capability with the rear camera having 8MP capability. The rear camera can provide good quality pictures, but may not work well with the low lighting.
The front camera, on the other hand, can provide standard quality pictures, which are good but not ones you’d like to post on social media. All in all the cameras on the Machfive aren’t so bad. The only problem found was the camera tutorial that kept popping up each time the camera app is opened. It can simply be removed by hitting the back button, but over time, it can prove to be bothersome.
The Machfive comes with a 2200mAH battery with no fast charging capabilities. Even without the fast charging feature, the phone doesn’t take long to get fully charged. This is not that bad considering the phone’s specs.
The Karbonn Machfive at its current price is a good midsized phone for Android users in India but before we make an informed decision on whether to buy it or not. Let’s look at its pros and cons
Karbonn Titanium Machfive
"At its current price, the Karbonn Machfive is a decent mid-range smartphone what it lacks in customization it replaces with a good camera and battery life. The specs that the phone also offers at the current price is definitely good value for money. In terms of whether to buy the phone or not, that will depend on the user. If the user is willing to over look the deficiencies such as the lack of 4G support for the size of the RAM and Internal Storage, then they can buy the phone. All in all the Machfive is a decent smartphone that every person with a low budget should consider."
