The Yu Yunique budget oriented smartphone – Full Review

Recently Yu came up with a new 4G smartphone ‘Yu Yunique’. The company introduces the 4G-format budget oriented smartphone in India with an HD display. The device offers a wide array of interesting features for a rather moderate price of Rs.4999.

Build and design

Yu Yunique is a good looking device. It is very compact and doesn’t weigh much. It’s weight is only about 128 g. Which is very comfortable for those who don’t like to carry heavy stuff in their pockets. The dimensions are 134.5 x 67.5 x 8.3 mm (5.30 x 2.66 x 0.33 in). The body of the Yu Yunique smartphone is made of plastic. You shouldn’t look at the rather ordinary price of the product. It doesn’t always mean that the quality suffers.

The back cover of the device can be removed and feels rather soft and rubbery, which makes handling the phone pretty nice. But at the same time you can get a good hold on the device that will prevent it’s slipping from your hands. However removing the back cover can be a bit of a problem since it is fitted very tightly. The display is not huge – 4,7 inches that make operating the smartphone easy, since everything can be reached with just one hand. The body comes in black color, but perhaps other colors will become available shortly.

Features

Yu Yunique didn’t go far from the more expensive devices. It works with a powerful Qualcomm MSM8916 Snapdragon 410 quad-core processor with 1 GB of RAM. For the comfortable use the device offers a 4G -enabled dual SIM option. The build in memory is 8 GB. However it can easily be increased by buying a microSD card with a capacity up to 32 GB. In many ways, Yu Yunique will remind the users of Yu Yuphoria. Some of the interesting features here are: MP4/H.264 player, MP3/eAAC+/WAV/Flac player, Document viewer, Photo/video editor.

The battery is moderately powerful. It has 2000mAh non-removable Li-Po mAh battery, which provides standby time up to 271 hours and talk time up to 7 hours. However, as it is with most modern smartphones, you must be ready to charge your Yunique daily. The device gives you the option to listen to Stereo FM radio with RDS and do some recording on your own. GPS and Bluetooth are available just as Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and hotspot.

Software

The operating system of Yu Yunique is Android 5.1. The software on this new smartphone is rather good quality and can highlight this device on the list of moderately priced smartphones. The good news is that, well, Android is Android. Everything can be changed, configured and customized the way the user wants. So despite the price the software on this device is excellent.

If you have been a dedicated Android user before or even if you are new to this OS, you will have no trouble navigating through this smartphone. Unfortunately, there aren’t many applications already installed on the device. You will find Yuniverse browser and AudioFX. That’s almost all. However, it only means that you can proceed with customizing your device the way you wish. Thanks to good hardware, the software here is working rather decently.

Display

At first glance, it looks like the display is a good quality lasting specimen. Yu Yunique’s 4.7 HD (1280 x720 pixels) display is more or less decent. The colors are not as bright as they could be. However, it is not always a negative thing. Many users prefer easy to read displays to screens with saturated colors. However forget about seeing anything outdoors with bright sunlight. In such conditions, the display is practically invisible. However indoors and without direct sunlight you can enjoy working with Yu Yunique without any display problems. Also, there are several issues with touch sensitivity. But overall Yu Yunique’s display is good for the money.

Performance

The performance of the new Yu Yunique smartphone is rather impressive. Thanks to the power of Qualcomm MSM8916 Snapdragon 410 quad-core processor. Surfing the web using 4G is definitely faster. Perhaps 4 -5 times as fast as 3G. The hardware of the Yu Yunique allows you to do just that – surf without delays. You can download a vast array of different movies, music, photos, etc in absolutely no time.

We have tested the device by running some basic games and watching different videos and have been rather satisfied by the performance. The device has no problem multitasking. Which means that you can use it for all your basic needs practically at once. However, once we moved on to some more complicated tasks the device failed to please our demands. Right away it became slow. So if you decide to play a complex game and watch a movie at the same time, forget about it. But think about it. Is it really necessary? All in all, the device’s performance statistics most of the user’s standard needs.

Cameras

Yu Yunique’s camera satisfied most of our demands and can be quickly called one of our favorite features. If you keep in mind the moderate smartphone price, the shots the device’s camera makes can be called very decent. The primary camera features 8-megapixel sensor with f/2.0 aperture lens and Full HD recording. You can use LED flash to take pictures at night and in bad light conditions. However, sometimes the flash can be too bright which reduces the image quality. There are standard night, landscape, sports, sunset, etc modes.

The images are good quality at all the modes. However, they can’t be called exceptional. At the same time, some of the color renderings were lost in the process. Overall it can be said that the camera is a good hard worker but obviously not the best on the market. The Yu Yunique has a poor 2-megapixel front-facing camera.

In conclusion, we can say that Yu Yunique a good smartphone for its price. It has all the necessary features of the up-to-date smartphone. It is rather comfortable to use and satisfies most needs of the modern user.
