Sony launched Xperia XZ and Xperia X Compact

The world famous electronics manufacturer Sony has announced two new handsets in the Xperia series. The two handsets Xperia XZ and Xperia X Compact have good features. The Xperia XZ is a flagship model and has the similar performance level of Xperia X which was launched some time back. The company has touted that the Xperia XZ is made of company’s ‘trademark material’. Sony also said that the handset is IP65/IP68 certified for dust and water resistance. Sony has not yet announced the price of any handset. The price will be revealed closer to the local launch dates. Xperia X Compact will be available for sale in September 2016 which the users have to wait a little longer for Xperia XZ as it will be available in October 2016.

Features of Xperia XZ

Display

The phone features a 5.2-inch HD IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display with 16M colors. The screen resolution is 1920 x 1080 pixels while the pixel density is approx 424 ppi. It supports multi-touch up to 10 fingers. Corning Gorilla Glass protects the display of Xperia XZ. The company has also mentioned that it has Triluminos display with X-Reality engine. The phone has IP68 certification that stated that it is dust proof and can hold up to 1.5 meters in water for max 30 minutes.

Processor and memory

The Xperia XZ sports Qualcomm MSM8996 Snapdragon 820 coupled with the quad-core processor. The cores are divided in two configurations that are 2 Kyro cores clocked at 2.15 GHz and 2 Kyro cores clocked at 1.6 GHz. The phone comes in two variants based on internal storage. The first has 3 GB RAM with 32 GB storage capacity and the second has 3 GB RAM with 64 GB storage capacity. The phone carries a dedicated microSD slot for memory expansion up to 256 GB. It also sports an Adreno 530 GPU for faster graphics.

Camera specs

The handset features a 23 MP rear camera with aperture f/2.0 and LED flash support. The focal length of the lens of the rear camera is 24mm and the sensor size is 1/2.3″. The rear camera supports features like phase detection, laser autofocus, geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, HDR, and panorama. It can shoot videos in three different resolutions that are [email protected], [email protected], and [email protected] The phone also carries a 13 MP front camera with 22mm focal length and 1/3” sensor size. The aperture of the front camera is f/2.0. It can also shoot videos in [email protected] resolution along with HDR resolution all well.

Connectivity

On the connectivity front, the Xperia XZ again has two different models. One supports Dual SIM and the second supports Single SIM. Both the SIM card slots can carry Nano SIM only. It has 2G, 3G, and 4G LTE band support. For other connectivity options it has Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth v4.2 and GPS via A-GPS, GLONASS/ BDS. It also has NFC chipsets for mobile payments. For wired connectivity and charging it uses a Type C-1.0 reversible connector port/

Other features

The phone sports a fingerprint scanner along with an accelerometer, gyro, proximity, barometer, compass, color spectrum sensors. The dimensions of the handset are 146 x 72 x 8.1 mm and it weighs 161 grams. The Xperia XZ comes with Android 6.0 marshmallow. Sony is planning to upgrade the OS to Android 7 Nougat soon. It packs Non-removable Li-Ion 2900 mAh battery which can give up to 11 hours of talk time on 2G network and 17 hours of talk time on 3G network. It is available in Mineral black, Platinum, Forest blue, and Deep pink color options.

Display

The phone features a 4.2 inch HD IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 16M colors. The screen-to-body ratio is approx 69.6 percent. The screen resolution is 1280 x 720 pixels with pixels density of 319 ppi. The screen is protected by Scratch-resistant glass and oleophobic coating. The display supports multi-touch up to 10 fingers.

Processor and Memory

Xperia X Compact sports Qualcomm MSM8956 Snapdragon 650 coupled with the hexacore processor. The cores are divided in two configurations that are 4 Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.4 GHz and 2 Cortex-A72 cores clocked at 1.8 GHz. It features 3 GB RAM and 32 GB internal storage. The memory is expandable up to 256 GB via microSD card. It has a dedicated microSD card slot. The phone packs Adreno 510 GPU for better graphics.

The handset features similar camera configurations as Xperia XZ.

Connectivity

The connectivity options are also similar to Xperia XZ. The only difference is that Xperia X Compact has FM radio support which is missing in Xperia XZ.

The dimensions of the handset are 129 x 65 x 9.5 mm and it weighs 135 grams. The phone comes with Android 6.0 marshmallow and will get an OS upgrade to Android 7 Nougat soon. It packs Non-removable Li-Ion 2700 mAh battery which can give up to 11 hours of talk time on 2G network and 14 hours of talk time on 3G network. It is available in White, Universe black, and Mist blue color options.
